For any California readers (and any others interested), I began a new blog in defense of traditional marriage in the lead up to the November ballot. As a citizen of California I want to help persuade people to vote for the constitutional amendment to defend traditional marriage.

God Bless Tony Snow & His Family

By Anonymous Anonymous, at July 12, 2008 11:01 AM

Gay couples are capable of raising a non conventional family. Gay couples can also love their non conventional families. The government isn't and shouldn't help them or encourage them to do so. If they want to start a family and have the means to do so, that's great. The government isn't going to and should never encourage it with marriage benefits.

The benefits derived from marriage are supposed to help a man and a woman naturally raise and love a family. The government should encourage natural marriage with benefits. The government should discourage gay marriage cause it isn't natural. Not saying gays can't marry or spend a lifetime together. They just shouldn't get the same benefits as a natural relationship.

The next institution that movement will target are religious ones. It will be an effort to force clergy to perform their "marriage" ceremonies in the name of God. Certainly they will get the courts involved, and there seem to be plenty of judges willing and ready to restructure society whether it's against the will of the majority or not.

This is a big issue for my Church (LDS). We cannot and will not ever support same sex marriage. It goes against the doctrine of our Church and they are not going to change it. This also eliminates any same-sex married couples from becoming members of our Church or going to our Temples. You can be homosexual in our Church, but you cannot be active in your homosexuality. The Bible is very clear on homosexuality.
The homosexual activists are already attacking religions world wide. Many have fallen to their pressure. They will not give up until all do.
I don't know what our Church will do if the courts ORDER them to accept same sex married couples. I dred the day that this happens because it will destroy our Church.

As a quick followup since I forgot to add it to the post I submitted..
Here is what our Church believes about Family.

This proclamation was sent out on Sept 23, 1995 and it is called "The Family: A Proclamation to the World"

Well, good luck to her. Anybody heard where or how Mitt is campaigning for McCain right now? I don't hear Mitt's name mentioned anywhere anymore, so I have given up hope of a vp nom. for him. As a matter of fact, some days I think Mitt needs to just stay away from McCain, the liberal loser.

Well, she seems to have a good resume. It also helps that she has a lot of money. And she probably has tons of connections and friends. It is also helpful that she's a female. Females seem to do quite well in statewide elections in California.

Now, the much more important question is: WHAT ARE HER POLITICS? Liberalism has killed California. Is she a conservative? And will she govern like a conservative? And if she is a conservative, can she communicate the conservative message in a way that will help her gain enough support to win the evermore liberal left coast People's Republic of California?

Wow. I've looked over the details of the poll and nothing strikes me as completely out of the ordinary. Hat tip to the Mitt Report

A poll released today by Datamar Inc., shows Former Governor from Massachusetts, Mitt Romney in the lead with 32.3%, in the California Presidential primary. Former Mayor of New York, Rudi Giuliani, is in second place with 14.7%. Congressman Duncan Hunter jumps to third place with 11% and U.S. Senator from Arizona, John McCain is fourth with 5.4%. Findings are based on a June 6 – 11, 2007 survey of California voters using Datamar’s proprietary targeted-registrationbased- sampling (TRBS)* method.

OK. Then. Off to the races we go!

What a shame to start off this Presidential race with nasty personal insults about Sam Brownback. Can't you come up with any arguments to articulate about his positions instead of personal insults? Is this what we have to look forward to from Mitt Romney? Thanks, but no thanks!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at June 16, 2007 3:05 PM

That's excellent news for California. Maybe soon we'll see similar results in Florida which also is a supposed Rudy stronghold.

First, why not post your comments in the proper section where the "insults" were made? It's easier to follow your reasoning.

Second, plenty of arguments have been made about Brownback and the other competitors. However, since Brownback is so low in the polls and infrequently considered, most attention is focused on those truly running for POTUS.

We all had to listen to Brownback and others during the debates. Yawn. Though he's a nice man, he's got negative charisma.

About the issues, why haven't I heard anyone else make a similar case for Iraq (3 states)? They all likely think he's out to lunch on the subject. He's all for amnesty, and even sided w/ McCain on the topic during the last debate. I understand he's for "whole life", making him sound more like my insurance guy than an aspiring president.

As I said, he's nice, but he's only got right one issue--abortion. He even waffled on that one back in the 90s. It's well-documented that he lacked the clarity early on. He's now proven to be strong on that issue, but we are all looking comprehensively at candidates--not for a single issue.

Further, Sam's never been an executive. Moreover, he's been part of the mess and tailspin of the GOP the last few years.

Mitt Romney is a polite man who is running an extremely positive, vision-based campaign. He doesn't need to take time to mischaracterize others. He's got his own message to share.

Your one-issue boy, Sam, and the older gentlemen from Arizona, in contrast, have little else to do but stir up a fuss about an issue that is settled in most people's minds. Mitt's clearly not perfect. He's just clearly more perfect than the other contenders.

I suppose this poll was lost on people who are still musing on the bottom feader thing. WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY!!! Winning in California?!(!*#@&!(*@&!(*@&! I thought this couldn't be true. I mean, I have been campaigning hard around the office and well, my bumper sticker campaign is heating up, but winning? Now, I must say, it could be an outlier poll. Maybe the 500 or so people is too small a sample. Maybe they should have talked to people who weren't registered to vote who intend to vote. Maybe they called at the wrong time of day. Whatever your explanation though, this is an extraordinary poll. The fact that any poll shows Romney winning in California isreally exceptional.

The Politico has an incredibly in depth story on Romney's Race towards the White House.

First is Romney's plan to game the primary system, in other words, play it smart:
Republican primaries are winner-take-all. Whoever wins statewide gets all the
delegates at stake. This favors front-runners, who, with their early money and
early support, can wrap up the nomination quickly.
But, in a barely noticed move, California Republicans have changed the system. Now it is winner-take-all by congressional district.
That means a candidate no longer needs to win the whole state to get delegates.

This means that California's primary is now 53 individual contests and the candidates will be able to cherry pick which districts they want to be competitive in, limiting the expense of advertising in CA.

Romney also plans to bring a new kind of politics to CA:

he intends to treat California as if it were a "retail" political state instead of a tarmac state. (Because California is so large geographically, candidates spend most of their time flying from airport to airport, standing on the tarmac, doing a sound bite for local TV and then flying on.) Romney intends to emphasize more intensive, face-to-face campaigning in select congressional districts in which he has the best chance of winning delegates.

He is going to spend money.
He will exploit the differences between him and his chief rivals:
Romney intends to exploit what he perceives as two of McCain's great vulnerabilities in the Republican primaries: the McCain-Feingold law, which restricts campaign contributions, and the McCain-Kennedy bill, which would change immigration laws and allow for a guest-worker program. And while Romney disagrees explicitly with Giuliani on issues such as abortion, gun control and gay rights, he implicitly draws distinctions between Giuliani's rather turbulent personal life -- he has been married three times -- and Romney's own marriage of nearly 38 years.

In Iowa he is going to go all out at the Ames straw poll August 11th

Finally, he is going to try to talk about the Mormon issue thusly:

Romney intends to recast the issue by emphasizing that he is a person of
faith and that that is more important to voters than what faith he is. Second,
his Mormon faith has been fundamental to his commitment to family, which he
believes people of all faiths can respect.

And realize he can be funny about it:

Romney quoted Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, a Mormon, telling other senators the
difficulty he has raising money among members of his own faith.
"You'd have had trouble raising money, too, if all the people you were asking money from were sober," Hatch said.
Mormons generally do not drink.

Of course, Mittheads, he can't do it alone. If you haven't already please go to Mitt's Website and sign up to volunteer and prepare for the battle ahead. There is much to do and barely a year to do it in. Also make sure all of your friends and family who support Mitt have done the same. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!
