Well, Floridians, the time has come. There's no longer any time to deliberate. It's time to decide. However, let's be clear about what your choices are. First off, this is not any sort of anti-Hillary or anti-Obama vote. You will have the chance to cast that vote later this year. This is not about the Deocratic party, but about the Republican party. Your vote will help define what exactly the Republican party stands for. Part of that choice will be the personality of the candidate. However, this should be a small portion of the equation because the Republican party is more than any single person's personality. The Republican party is a collection of (to varying extents) like-minded people. It is based on shared principles and values. Thus, the exaltation of personality qualities over principles and values subverts the intent of this coalition of principles. The major part of your choice will be what principles, values, and policies are advocated by the Republican party. This is where the clearest distinction is between the candidates. It is also the area where I believe Mitt Romney is the clear choice. Mitt Romney represents a broad coalition of conservative principles. He has clearly advocated conservative policies in national defense, economics, and social values. He has made clear that we must win in Iraq, not just because of the narrow interests represented by the situation there, but as part of the larger conflict between Islamic radicals and the freedoms represented by America. He has also consistently laid out the need to reduce the tax burden on Americans and control the spending and buracracy currently pervading the federal government. Finally, he shares conservative values on life and marriage issues. In terms of contrast with the other leading candidate, John McCain, they stand on opposite sides of such important issues as immigration (McCain-Kennedy), freedom of speech (McCain-Feingold), and global warming (McCain-Liberman). Remember, Florida, this is about defining the Republican party. Do we as a party want to move left on immigration? Do we want to move left on Global warming? Do we want to restrict political speech? These are the decisions you must make. I believe the right decision is Mitt Romney. Labels: Florida

Two different sources are saying this kind of stuff is going on, in addition to the individual accounts we have reported here: Miami Herald: Robo calls paint Romney as pro-Castro, says Cardenas Mitt Romney' s state chairman Al Cardenas says robo calls portraying Romney as soft on Castro have been going out this afternoon to Miami voters. The calls almost immediately following appearances by diplomat Roger Noriega praising the candidate on Spanish-language radio, said Cardenas, who called the calls "dirty pool" and "despicable." He said he's not sure who is behind the calls but said "we can only assume it's one of our opponents." St. Petersburg Times: Anti-Romney pushpolling Romney campaign is getting reports of anti-Romney pushpolling in Orlando, Fort Myers and West Palm Beach, the calls started this morning. The poll calls are saying that Romney never supported Bush tax cuts, supports tax-payer funded abortions and wants relations with Fidel Castro. Some calls have targeted the Cuban community in South Florida and are in Spanish, said Al Cardenas, Romney's Florida chair. "These are clearly negative and false attacks against Gov. Romney by a flailing campaign desperate to change the dialogue on issues that matter most to Florida voters like lower taxes, less government and stronger families," said campaign spokeswoman Kristy Campbell.

As always, if you have any info of what's happening on the ground, let us know at info@mymanmitt.com. Gina in Gulf Breeze says this: Ben Romney and his beautiful wife visited the volunteers working at the Romney Campaign’s Pensacola, FL phone bank on Saturday, January 26th. The setting was a hotel conference room filled with volunteers from every walk of life, dialing and talking on cell phones to local registered republicans. Ben stated that two things contribute to a political win; number one, the candidate, and, number two, the campaign. First, Ben shared a few reasons why he thought the candidate was a winner, starting with the obvious, “Well he is my dad” and then telling us why he felt his dad would do a great job. Ben then talked about the second thing that contributes to a political win; the campaign. He pointed to the room full of cell phone wrangling volunteers and said, “That’s you.” It was obvious that his appreciation was genuine and sincere and he took time to speak to every single volunteer. I’m not shy, so I asked a special favor of Ben. He personally phoned my mother in Arizona and asked for her vote for his dad. My mom is still talking about it. On Monday, Jan 28th I’ll make a three hour drive to Panama City Florida to volunteer at the Rally and see Mitt again. Other readers say they are getting push polls. Nicole in Sanford says this: Just received a polling phone call and they were asking me questions against Mitt: "Mitt Romney was against the Bush tax cuts. Does this make you more or less likely to vote for Mitt Romney?" I asked who paid for this poll and the guy hung up.

From a reader: I got a call from a buddy of mine that told me of how McCain is on the attack in Florida. He lives in Miami. He got a call touting McCain and claiming that "McCain is the only Republican that could compete with the Dems." Saying that "Romney would be beat by 10 points." They said, "that is a political blow out". He said at the end of the message that it was paid for by John McCain for President. He told me that McCain was with Sen. Martinez and was challenging Romney's economic message. Anyone else in Florida getting these calls? Let us know about all the latest on the ground in Florida at info@mymanmitt.com. Labels: Florida

Gina in Gulf Breeze says this: On January 25th I attended a Mitt Romney Meet & Greet event in Pensacola, Florida. An active campaign volunteer, I worked the table at the event; collecting volunteer cards and contributions to Mitt’s campaign. The audience was charged and the enthusiasm was like dynamite ready to ignite. By the end of the event over two hundred people were chanting, “But They Haven’t” and clamoring for their Mitt Romney yard signs.
Also at the event were the ubiquitous Ron Paul Supporters, hoping to disrupt the Romney event and get some media coverage for their guy. Quite graciously, they were escorted off the private property but encouraged to stand on the public access street with their signs. The only expectation was that they not be disruptive of the event being held on private property.
A few Romney supporters looked out onto the street, shook their heads and asked, "Can’t we make them leave; they’re kooks?” I then shared my opinion about Ron Paul’s supporters. As a dedicated Romney fan, I think MittHeads should love the Ron Paul people. I tell Ron Paul’s campaigners, “Thank you for thinking about our country’s future, for exercising your right to vote, and for being a member of the Republican Party – we may have our differences during the primary but we also have some common ground and I hope you’ll remember that after the primary.” Labels: Florida

Brenda in Orlando says this: We have "boots on the ground" and are working really hard to bring Florida for Gov Romney. I would like to mention that the Romney Campaign is a first class organization disciplined to convey the true Mitt Romney to the people with pride, dignity and self respect. We are reminded constantly to remain dignified, do not criticize opponents and emphasize Gov Romney's strengths and dedication to his platform - and our telephone calls are ALL LIVE encounters. Lots of positive volunteers on the phone and on the ground because they believe in Gov Romney and know he is the best candidate for President. We will not stop until the last poll is closed on Tuesday - it is truly an inspiring campaign - full of energy and hope for the future. Strong support among evangelicals in the I-4 corridor - intelligent and thinking people who are making their decisions based on the man, his life and his experience. Labels: Florida

The build up on First-Read: BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The ever-shrinking GOP presidential field (Giuliani, Huckabee, McCain, Paul, and Romney) meets for potentially the last time as a five-way contest tonight. Broadcast live on MSNBC and streamed on msnbc.com from 9:00 pm to 10:30 pm ET, the debate here will be moderated by NBC’s Brian Williams; he will be joined by NBC’s Tim Russert, as well as St. Petersburg Times editor Paul Tash. It’s the only debate before the state’s crucial primary on Tuesday. And there’s a do-or-die feel to it. One tries to avoid the prediction game, particularly for this campaign season, and yet all signs point to this debate being one of the most contentious of the cycle for the GOP. Why? If the candidates don't stop McCain now, they never will.
